Rock Stars?

Jerome, a town of barely 400, does have some celebrity rock stars. Maynard Keenan of Tool and Dave Abbruzzese, the former drummer for Pearl Jam. (Maybe this is why the cost of housing has gone up so high here). Bummer. Leave it to Jerome to receive the rock stars as Sedona has the movie stars. We will take our rockers any day.

Tonight is the Tierra Party at the Mile High. We didn't finish making ours so we are going to show up fashionably late. Mind you, the people hosting the party also hosted - 'Your Favorite Dead Person Party' last year. I went as Ms. Kitty and Tracy as Mr. Rogers. We also had Lucille Ball, Carmen Miranda, Minny Pearl and many more ghastly ghostly figures. Try playing pictionary in a saloon dress with a feather head piece.

Other things to do on a typical Jerome evening: Pool at Paul and Jerry's Bar, Book Group Wednesday Nights, Writing Group every other Thursday, Nude Drawing every other Friday, Poker Night, Drinks at the Haunted Hamburger bar, Dancing at the Spirit Room Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Out In Jerome every Third Saturday evening, etc. etc.

After haven driven down the hill, a whole seven miles, to do our shopping, I am constantly reminded of how unique and different Jerome is. Our surrounding towns, conservative and behind about 20 years (with the exception of Sedona). We pulled into the Smoke Shop, a little trailer located on the Yavapai-Apache Indian reservation. Tracy runs in to get cigarettes, I overhear a woman coming out with a carton speaking to a man getting in his car - I love your shirt. It said something about Jesus. What church do you worship in, she asks. And they continues with God Bless you and all. We go to get our hair cut, the place is packed with middle aged women gossiping about other middle-aged women. The decor is a mix of Martha Stewart on Crack and Better Homes and Trailers.

Just an observation...
